Analysis of Contemporary Digital Recording

There are an abundant amount of new and old technology and software that allows us to capture and create innovative footage.

 Mobile phones

The first mobile phone with a built in camera was released in South Korea in June 2000. That is what started off what turned into the everyday, run of the mill smartphone with built in front and back camera we all know now. On top of that, a smart phone now also have settings to change the type of photo such as a live photo- and also adding in filters!

More recent cameras on mobile phones

One of the main and obvious pros to cameras on mobile phones existing is that you can record anything you want and that it is so easy to use as you don't need to set it up every time you want to take a photo/record, they are definitely the more accessible and easy to use camera technology than the others in this list. One con of using a mobile phone camera is the other side of it being accessible is that storage can be used up too easily as you can just mindlessly start recording. Another con to using a mobile phone is, even though technology has improved so phone camera qualities just keep improving, a lot are not fully up to the level of other pieces of technology.

SLR cameras

SLR cameras (abbreviated for Single-Lense Reflex), refer to a camera that uses the same lense to show the image seen in the viewfinder that used used to actually take the picture.

One of the advantages of using an SLR is there is no delay in tracking what is in the scene before an image is took. Another one that links into the last one is because its the exact same lense, what you are seeing in the viewfinder (unless flash is going to be used) is what the picture is going to turn out like. The only exceptions is that the viewfinder on some cameras may crop the scene/image slightly. However, one of the main cons about SLR cameras is how they are difficult to focus in low lighting. Another main, key one is that the power can run out quickly.

Drones

The first ever documented drone was used in 1896 and its was a rocket with a camera attached to it, so it is very obvious that drones have made such obvious technological advancements in the past 126 years. One of the positives of using a modern-day drone to capture footage is as it c fly, it can capture scenes that are higher up in the sky than other cameras. Therefore, giving the modern-day drone more opportunities to capture more of a variety of things .The main thing that downfalls using drones is that they are illegal in some places as they can be a security issue. They're a security issue because of trespassing/stalking, data exploitation and something called MPS spoofing where drones are hacked and given false co-ordinates so it doesn't go to the intended location.

Ipads

The first iPad was invented over a decade ago in 2010 and it has undergone so much technological advancement. One of the main (and more relevant to this research) improvements is the camera quality and the filters/editing capabilities. The main pro about using an iPad for photography/videography is about the dating techniques and not as much about the camera. It is, if you purchase an apple pen, using software such as Photoshop becomes easier and the apple pen is much more easier to use on an iPad than other apple products such as iPhone. The main downfall of using an iPad for photography/videography purposes is the size of an iPad(no matter which generation) is the size is very impractical to use total pictures from and as an iPad and iPhone have mirroring camera properties to each other, an iPhone would be more practical to use for videography/photography purposes as its more convenient to use.

360 camera

These eyeball-like cameras (like in the name) capture 360 degrees of a scene as they have multiple lenses, normally two wide angle lenses. These cameras will then automatically stitch the two images together. One example is an Insta 360 ONE, there is also the Insta 360 ONE R and the Insta 360 ONE x2.
