Documentary market research

 Don’t f**k with cats Summed up, this documentary is about a woman who stumbles upon animal cruelty against a cat and get together a group of people on the internet to help track down who this is as his crimes escalate. Out of the 6 main types of documentaries, this one falls under preformative . The only thing about this documentary, is that since it is over a time scale of a decade, the way social media is used, is not really relevant now, in the sense of the way they are using facebook is they way people would use twitter now for example. This documentary is very effective as it shows the emotional connection between the filmmakers and the subject and also helps provoke emotion in the viewer whilst also educating people on the subject.  In Search of the Darkness This documentary that is only available on shudder is an exploration of 80's horror films through the eyes of the actors, directors etc who helped make them and the impact it had on contemporary cinema.  The client for this project is BBC Three and BBC England. The BBC/British Broadcasting Corporation (which was founded on 18th October 1922 by a group of wireless manufacturers) is the worlds oldest and largest national broadcaster. They have an estimated 28,979 employees all in different sectors and job roles. But out of all of the job roles, it shows that in 2019 the main occupied job under BBC is programming. The significant changes from 1922 to 2022 that the BBC has undergone has been creating television broadcasts, mulitiple BBC channels in multiple forms of media with loads of different genres like kids,news,music,tvs shows etc,, television centre and many more. interpreting the brief

 The context for this project summarised is to create a short documentary film about technology and how it affects and influences the world today. However, it should be more aimed towards the experiences of 16-24 year olds of how technology influences and affects them. It is to show how technology affects people and every form of media from the news to social media.  The client this project will be made for is BBC Three and BBC England. 

Pre production diary

17/02/2022 In this lesson, I was given the brief for the new project. I then typed up an explanation of the brief explaining briefly who the clients is (as i will write a client brief later on),  what the goal of this brief is and when the deadline is.  18/02/2022 For this lesson, i started researching the clients and creating a client brief on blogger. This is including history of the clients, who they are and have the collaborated before, this is accompanied with pictures. Research into media forms (documentaries)

The definition of a documentary is "Being consistant of documents" and also "A film, television or radio program that gives facts or information on a subject". There is no specific, strict road a documentary needs to go down but all documentaries fall into at least one of these six labels: Expository, Observational, Participatory, Reflexive, Poetic and Preformative.  What makes up an expository is if it is very obvious it is heavily researched, their aim is to educate. This style of documentaries are referred to as essay films. The content will include footage supporting and strengthening what the documentary is talking about, stock footage, archival footage or reenactment footage. Some other characteristics of an expository documentary include: voice over (often referred to as "Voice of god"), a "right" answer (doesn't really leave it open to interpretation) and evitory editing.
